Buc-ee's prioritizes 'conservative, business-friendly' states for expansion
Texas-based travel stop chain Buc-ee's is undergoing major expansion and, according to recent remarks, favors conservative, business-friendly states for new locations.
Buc-ee's, the Texas-based travel stop chain known for its expansive facilities and distinct brand, is in the midst of a significant expansion. Company president, CEO, and co-founder Arch "Beaver" Aplin III has indicated a preference for establishing new locations in conservative states that are perceived as business-friendly.
Speaking at the grand opening of a new location in Benton, Arkansas, on August 17, Aplin stated that "a conservative, business-friendly state with a phenomenal workforce makes a difference." He also expressed a desire to focus on areas where the company's contributions are appreciated.
Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders attended the opening, highlighting the state's excitement to welcome its first Buc-ee's. Aplin described his leadership philosophy as "conservative, business-friendly, and family-oriented," suggesting that expansion proceeds more effectively with top-level political support.
Buc-ee's currently operates 58 locations across the U.S., with a concentration in Texas. The chain has seen substantial growth in recent years. Expansion plans through 2031 include new sites in Tennessee, Louisiana, Kansas, Georgia, Florida, Arkansas, Kentucky, and South Carolina, many of which are traditionally Republican-leaning states. The company also opened a location in the more liberal state of Colorado earlier this year.
