Bundeswehr awards further major contract for Rheinmetall laser modules
Germany's armed forces (Bundeswehr) have placed another significant order for Rheinmetall's Laser-Light-Modules (LLM-VarioRay). The contract is worth several hundred million euros, with deliveries scheduled through 2032.

The German armed forces, Bundeswehr, have awarded Rheinmetall a major contract for additional Laser-Light-Modules (LLM-VarioRay). The order, valued in the three-digit millions of euros, covers a six-figure quantity of the devices to be delivered between 2026 and 2032.
This marks the second substantial call-off under a framework agreement initially concluded in June 2021 and extended in December 2025. Rheinmetall expects the order intake to be booked in the second quarter of 2026. The modules are manufactured in Germany by Rheinmetall Soldier Electronics, and the contract will also benefit numerous German small and medium-sized enterprises as suppliers.
The LLM-VarioRay Laser-Light-Module is designed for infantry and dismounted troops' small arms, serving to detect, identify, and mark targets. Weighing approximately 250 grams, it can be attached to assault rifles via a MIL-STD 1913 rail or STANAG 4694 and is operated via a trigger cable. It features a white LED, a red-light laser marker, an infrared laser marker, and an electrically focusable infrared illuminator.
This equipment is part of the German soldier system 'Future Soldier – Extended System (IdZ-ES)'. Similar modules are also in use by the British and Swiss armies. The contract underscores the role of advanced targeting and illumination devices in modern military operations and reinforces Rheinmetall's position as a supplier of soldier equipment.
