Butter Money CEO Discusses Market Strategy with CB Insights
Suhail Manocha, Founder & CEO at Butter Money, spoke with CB Insights about the company's positioning in the Indian mortgage market and future growth.

Suhail Manocha, Founder and CEO of Butter Money, has provided insights into the company's market approach and customer focus in an interview with CB Insights.
Manocha described the Indian residential mortgage market as significant, with approximately $300 billion in new home loans originated annually against an outstanding book of about $400 billion. The market is experiencing an 18% growth rate. Compared to the US, where mortgages represent about 70% of GDP, India's penetration is under 12%, indicating substantial room for structural growth.
Butter Money is targeting prime and urban borrowers in Tier 1 cities. The company aims to originate around 500,000 mortgages annually, representing approximately $55 billion in loan origination. This focused segment presents a serviceable revenue pool estimated at $500–700 million per year.
While the total fee pool for the entire Indian mortgage market is estimated at $3 billion annually, Manocha clarified that Butter Money is not pursuing the entirety of this market. The company is concentrating its efforts on securing about 1% of the origination volume within its chosen niche of prime urban borrowers.
