BVTE Supplies Collection Bins for Cigarette Waste to Lünen
The German Tobacco Industry and Novel Products Association (BVTE) has supplied collection bins for cigarette waste to the city of Lünen. The initiative aims to reduce littering of cigarette butts.

The German Tobacco Industry and Novel Products Association (BVTE) has provided the city of Lünen with collection bins for the proper disposal of cigarette waste. The association is collaborating with the city and the local cleanup initiative "Mein sauberes Lünen e.V." to reduce cigarette butt littering in the urban environment.
BVTE's Managing Director, Jan Mücke, handed over the collection bins to Lünen Mayor Martina Förster-Teutenberg and representatives of "Mein sauberes Lünen e.V.". These bins are intended for placement at suitable locations, offering smokers an additional, convenient option for disposing of their waste. This effort complements the existing work by the city and the local cleanup group.
"Every smoker bears responsibility for the proper disposal of their cigarette waste. This requires not only awareness and personal responsibility but also the right infrastructure," Mücke stated. He emphasized that BVTE aims to make a concrete contribution to improving the situation in partnership with the city of Lünen and the local initiative.
The handover took place shortly before the annual World Cleanup Day in September. Since 2020, as part of its "I Smoke & Care for the Environment" campaign, BVTE has distributed over one million pocket ashtrays and numerous collection bins nationwide. Manufacturers of cigarette filters already finance municipal cleanup costs with approximately €161 million annually through the single-use plastic fund. The BVTE advocates for these funds to be increasingly directed towards prevention, education, and additional disposal services.
