Chinese technology firm BYD has informed investors that its battery manufacturing capacity will limit the rollout of its fast-charging solutions this year. The company highlighted the considerable popularity of its fast-charging technology among consumers.

The announcement underscores BYD's challenge in meeting surging demand for battery technology across electric vehicles and energy storage systems. BYD has previously introduced advancements like its second-generation "Blade Battery," which significantly reduces charging times.

The company also acknowledged the growing need for infrastructure to support artificial intelligence (AI) development, particularly data centers. BYD expressed strong confidence in its energy storage business, anticipating rapid growth in demand for these solutions. The expansion of AI is also driving swift demand for power semiconductors, including silicon carbide components.

BYD Semiconductor, the company's semiconductor arm, operates as an IDM (Integrated Device Manufacturer), covering chip design, wafer fabrication, and testing. This capability positions BYD as China's largest producer of automotive-grade chips, a key competitive advantage. The company has also been expanding its network of "Flash Charging" stations, with a target of 20,000 stations by year-end.
