BYD Launches RACCO Mini EV in Japan
BYD has introduced its new RACCO mini electric vehicle to the Japanese market. The car meets Japan's "Kei Car" size standards and offers a maximum driving range of 320 km.
BYD Japan has announced the launch of its new mini electric vehicle, the RACCO, in Japan. Priced from 2.145 million yen (pre-tax), the vehicle adheres to Japan's "Kei Car" size regulations, measuring 3395 mm in length and 1475 mm in width.
The RACCO stands out with its 1800 mm height, catering to Japanese consumer preference for high-top vehicles. It also marks the first fully electric "Kei Car" in Japan to feature electric sliding doors, signaling BYD's strategy to penetrate the Japanese lightweight vehicle market.
The vehicle is available with two battery options: a base model with a 22.4 kWh battery offering a 210 km WLTC range, and a higher-spec model with a 35.84 kWh battery that achieves 320 km. This makes it the first "Kei Car" in Japan to exceed 300 km range under WLTC standards. Its maximum DC fast charging power is capped at 50 kW.
The cargo space can be expanded to 1372 liters with the rear seats folded, comparable to many standard passenger cars, potentially opening doors for commercial variants for last-mile deliveries. Notable features include hands-free gesture-controlled electric sliding doors, NFC smartphone key, battery preheating, and a 10.1-inch central display. Competing against models like the Nissan Sakura and Honda N-ONE e:, the RACCO includes heated seats and steering wheel, L2 driving assistance, and V2L power output. It is offered in six exterior colors and two interior color schemes.
