BYD has officially launched its Sea Lion 08 SUV in China. Positioned as a large SUV, the vehicle offers customers a choice between a fully electric (BEV) powertrain and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) option.

The Sea Lion 08 is priced between 229,900 and 279,900 yuan. The fully electric version boasts a WLTC range of up to 900 kilometers, while the plug-in hybrid variant offers an electric range of 400 kilometers and a combined range of 1650 kilometers. The PHEV model reports a fuel consumption of 4.6 liters per 100 km (NEDC) when running on its gasoline engine.

The vehicle measures 5115 mm in length, 1999 mm in width, and 1800 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3030 mm. Interior configurations accommodate either five or six passengers, with cargo space ranging from 943 liters down to 201 liters depending on seating. A 17.3-inch central touchscreen is standard.

BYD has equipped the Sea Lion 08 with features aimed at enhancing driving dynamics and safety, including an advanced suspension system and rear-wheel steering, which reduces the turning radius to 4.95 meters. The SUV also incorporates multiple parking assistance functions, such as remote parking via smartphone. The company highlighted the vehicle's safety by stating its ability to maintain stability during high-speed tire blowouts on wet surfaces up to 160 km/h.

The introduction of the Sea Lion 08 aligns with BYD's strategy to expand its offerings in China's competitive new energy vehicle market. The model aims to capture demand for larger, versatile vehicles with extended range capabilities.
