Chinese automaker BYD has achieved a significant milestone in the Japanese market with its Racco electric K-car. Within two months of its launch, the model designed specifically for Japan has accumulated over 1800 orders.

The BYD Racco was officially released in Japan on July 28, 2026. The lineup includes three variants: Racco 200, 300 Plus, and 300 Premium. Pricing ranges from 2.145 million yen (approximately $13,000 USD) to 2.497 million yen (approximately $15,000 USD). The top-tier 300 Premium model has emerged as the most favored, accounting for a substantial 85% of all orders.

Atsuki Tofukuji, President of BYD Auto Japan, stated that as of September 27, 2026, cumulative orders for the Racco had reached 1832 units. The "Polar White" color is the most popular choice, making up 44% of orders, followed by "Cheese Yellow" at 20%.

Deliveries of the 300 series models have faced delays due to supply chain issues affecting battery components. However, BYD confirmed that deliveries are proceeding as planned starting in September. The company currently has approximately 1300 outstanding orders to fulfill.
