BYD releases second-generation Seagull electric hatchback in China
BYD has launched an updated version of its compact electric vehicle, transitioning to rear-wheel drive and five-passenger seating with a starting price of RMB 65,900.

BYD introduced its second-generation Seagull electric vehicle in China on October 20. The updated model is available in five variants, ranging in price from RMB 65,900 to RMB 99,900. This refresh marks a significant departure from the original architecture, shifting from front-wheel to rear-wheel drive.
The vehicle has been redesigned to accommodate five passengers, up from the previous four-seat capacity. Dimensions have increased to a length of 4,205mm with a 2,650mm wheelbase. BYD has also upgraded the powertrain to a 95kW motor and replaced the rear torsion-beam suspension with an independent multi-link system to improve ride dynamics.
Technical specifications include two range options rated at 320km and 420km under the CLTC cycle. Premium models now feature advanced driver-assistance capabilities through the DiPilot 300 system and optional Lidar integration. Additionally, high-end configurations support a fast-charging function that the company claims can reach a 70% charge from a 10% base in five minutes at suitable charging infrastructure.
