Chinese automaker BYD has announced the type approval of two new BYD Tang EV models through China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). These latest additions, informally referred to as "Little Tang" to distinguish them from the larger "Big Tang," expand the company's electric vehicle offerings.

The new BYD Tang EV models measure 5045mm in length, 1980mm in width, and 1740-1760mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2950mm. The vehicles feature a unibody construction and are capable of reaching a top speed of 250 km/h. Safety systems include an anti-lock braking system (ABS) and an event data recorder (EDR).

One of the new models provides flexibility with options for 5 or 7 seats and can be customized with various tire sizes and exterior trim packages. The second model is exclusively a 5-seater with a more limited selection of optional features.

Both variants utilize BYD's lithium iron phosphate battery technology. Powering the vehicles is a 300 kW (peak) permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. These new models reflect BYD's ongoing strategy to expand its presence in the competitive electric vehicle market.
