BYD, the Chinese automotive manufacturer, has announced that the second generation of its Seagull electric vehicle will officially launch on October 20 at the Zhengzhou Racing Circuit. The updated model incorporates comprehensive enhancements to its interior quality, space utilization, and intelligent features.

The new Seagull has seen a substantial increase in dimensions, measuring 4205mm in length, 1810mm in width, and 1570mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2650mm. These dimensions bring it closer to BYD's Dolphin model. The seating arrangement has been upgraded from four to five seats, significantly improving rear passenger space. Storage has also been enhanced with the addition of a 94L front trunk and a rear cargo area that can expand to 1380L with the rear seats folded.

A key change for this generation is the powertrain upgrade. The Seagull now features a rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 95kW, an increase from the previous 55kW, and a top speed of 150km/h, up from 130km/h. The rear suspension has been revised from a torsion beam to a multi-link independent setup, aiming to improve ride comfort and handling. The vehicle utilizes BYD's LFP Blade battery, offering two CLTC range options: 320km and 420km. Higher trims will include fast-charging capabilities, allowing a 10% to 70% charge in just five minutes under specific conditions.

Inside, the Seagull sports a refreshed design centered around a large, floating central display supporting split-screen functionality. Traditional instrument clusters are replaced by digital displays, with a focus on minimalist physical controls. The seats feature perforated surfaces and stitching details, with the driver's seat offering electric adjustment, massage, and ventilation functions. Advanced features like ambient lighting, an 8-speaker sound system, and rear air vents are also included. The center console offers wireless charging and a rotary gear selector.

While final pricing will be announced at launch, preliminary dealer estimates suggest a starting price around 85,000 Chinese yuan. The second-generation Seagull is positioned to compete in the growing electric compact car segment.
