BYD to resume high-speed trials with Yangwang U9X

BYD has announced a new high-speed challenge in Abu Dhabi for the Yangwang U9X, aiming to surpass its previous record of 496.22 km/h.

2 November 2026

BYD has officially announced the resumption of high-speed road testing for the Yangwang U9X electric supercar. The testing will take place on public roads in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, as the manufacturer looks to push the vehicle beyond its previous record of 496.22 km/h set in Germany in 2025.

The Yangwang U9X is engineered with a 1200V platform and a quad-motor system capable of delivering 3,019 horsepower. Following analysis of previous test data, the development team believes the vehicle has additional potential that was not fully explored during its initial record run, with the team now aiming to reach the 500 km/h threshold.

The announcement has received professional recognition from the industry. Hu Zhengnan, Chief Technology Officer of the automotive division at Xiaomi, acknowledged the initiative, stating that the development of high-performance electric vehicles is a high-risk endeavor that requires continuous real-world testing to unlock performance gains.
