BYD's Fangchengbao Bao 9 Plug-in Hybrid SUV Approved
BYD has submitted an application for its new Fangchengbao Bao 9 model to Chinese authorities. The vehicle is a six-seat, plug-in hybrid SUV with a length exceeding 5.2 meters.
BYD, China's largest electric vehicle manufacturer, has officially registered its new Fangchengbao Bao 9 model with the country's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The vehicle is a large, six-seat, plug-in hybrid SUV to be marketed under BYD's Fangchengbao brand.
The SUV measures 5,270 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and stands between 1,850–1,880 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,130 mm, positioning it as a substantial utility vehicle. It features a plug-in hybrid powertrain, combining a 1.5-liter internal combustion engine (110 kW) with dual electric motors (90 kW front, 70 kW rear, both with a peak output of 200 kW) and a lithium iron phosphate battery.
With a top speed of 220 km/h, the Fangchengbao Bao 9 will offer extensive customization options. These include various exterior appearance packages, the choice of omitting roof racks (which would reduce height to 1,850 mm), and different wheel rim and brake caliper finishes. Buyers can select from various tire sizes and wheelbases to match. The vehicle also comes equipped with a standard event data recorder (EDR) system.
BYD has significantly expanded its global presence in recent years, focusing on electric and hybrid vehicles. The Fangchengbao brand represents one of BYD's newer efforts to diversify its offerings and target specific market segments. The introduction of the Bao 9 aligns with this strategy of broadening its model portfolio.
