Chinese technology company ByteDance is reportedly exploring opportunities in autonomous driving technology. The project is said to be in early planning stages and will focus on unmanned logistics.

Chinese technology firm ByteDance is reportedly exploring the field of autonomous driving technology. According to new information, the initiative has entered an early preparatory phase and is expected to concentrate on unmanned logistics.
The project is currently overseen by the world models team within ByteDance's Seed unit, led by Zhou Chang. The business focus is understood to be "unmanned logistics," a venture that would fall under ByteDance's Huoshan Engine division for the automotive industry.
Discussions have taken place with several leading autonomous driving teams regarding potential business collaborations. Insiders suggest that ByteDance has also extended invitations to numerous high-profile talents in assisted and autonomous driving.
However, ByteDance has denied these reports, stating to media outlet 36Kr: "ByteDance has many early-stage exploration areas, including physical AI, but has no plans for intelligent driving business." The Seed team, established in 2023, focuses on novel approaches to general intelligence, researching areas such as large language models, speech, vision, world models, and AI infrastructure.
