ByteDance Invests $39 Billion in Brazilian AI Data Center
ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, is investing approximately $39 billion in a new data center on Brazil's northeast coast. The move signifies a major expansion of AI infrastructure in Latin America.

ByteDance is committing an estimated $39 billion to construct a large-scale data center on Brazil's northeast coast in the state of Ceará. This facility is set to become ByteDance's largest data center outside of China and one of the most significant AI infrastructure hubs in Latin America.
Construction is underway with over a hundred workers already on site, building 20 data halls projected to deliver around 200 megawatts of computing power. The first phase of the data center is expected to become operational by late 2027, addressing the surging demand for AI capabilities.
The global race for AI infrastructure is increasingly constrained by power availability and grid capacity in major tech hubs like the United States. Long wait times and grid stress have led companies to seek alternative locations. Brazil's abundant renewable energy resources, particularly hydropower and wind power, present a compelling solution for the energy-intensive AI industry.
The Ceará data center project benefits from a significant 20-year wind power agreement, valued at $2 billion, ensuring that the facility will operate on clean energy from its inception. This strategic investment not only caters to the growing need for AI capacity but also positions ByteDance competitively within the region and on the global stage.
