Chinese technology firm ByteDance has announced the launch of its Seed STEM Scientist Program, an initiative designed to foster AI-driven scientific advancements. The program aims to recruit 100 leading scholars from cutting-edge scientific fields to collaborate on real-world research problems, accelerating discovery and pushing the boundaries of intelligence.
The initiative focuses on researchers with substantial academic achievements and deep disciplinary understanding. Applicants must demonstrate a strong interest and belief in AI's role in accelerating scientific findings, along with a clear assessment of AI's applicability and current limitations within their respective domains. Proficiency in programming and practical experience using AI as a productivity tool are preferred. A doctoral degree or equivalent research level in STEM fields is required.
Participants will benefit from substantial computing resources to undertake large-scale, frontier research. They will also engage in close collaboration with ByteDance's dedicated AI research teams, fostering innovative exploration. The program offers industry-competitive remuneration to recognize the value and contributions of the participating scientists.
Two participation tracks are available: Scientist Advisor for established academics or industry experts, and PhD Intern for current doctoral students with a strong interest in AI frontier problems. The initial program duration is approximately six months, with participants working closely with the Seed team. Applications are open until September 30, 2026, with the work being conducted in Beijing.
