Cainiao Supply Chain to Operate as Separate Alibaba Entity
Alibaba's Cainiao Supply Chain will operate as an independent company within Alibaba's e-commerce division, separate from Taotian Group. Alibaba plans to increase investment in the unit.

Alibaba's logistics arm, Cainiao, is set to operate its domestic supply chain business as a distinct entity, independent of the Taotian Group. This strategic move positions Cainiao Supply Chain as a parallel company within Alibaba's broader e-commerce sector, allowing it to pursue external market opportunities while receiving continued investment from Alibaba.
Sources close to the company have confirmed this restructuring, clarifying earlier reports that suggested a full integration into Taotian Group. The relationship between Cainiao Supply Chain and Taotian is reportedly analogous to that of Xiami and Taotian, both operating under the e-commerce umbrella but maintaining separate corporate identities. This independence is intended to bolster Cainiao's capacity to serve external brand merchants and enhance its investment in AI-driven intelligent capabilities.
The repositioning aims to strengthen collaborations with e-commerce platforms and brand clients, many of whom have expressed intentions to deepen their partnerships with Cainiao's domestic supply chain services. This organizational change, effective July 1, follows internal management meetings and aims to streamline operations and foster growth.
Cainiao has established a global logistics network spanning over 200 countries and regions, with local express delivery services in nine countries and a substantial network of intelligent warehousing facilities. The company's international logistics and technology divisions remain stable amidst these domestic operational adjustments.
