California American Water Reduces Wildfire Risk Near Sonoma County Infrastructure

California American Water has announced the completion of projects aimed at reducing wildfire risk around its water facilities in the Larkfield-Mark West area of Sonoma County.

The projects were led by the Sonoma County Fire District, in partnership with local property owners, Sonoma County agencies, and other stakeholders, including California American Water. The work focused on reducing hazardous vegetation near water system facilities and adjacent neighborhoods to enhance community wildfire resilience.

At the Montebello site, approximately four acres of flammable eucalyptus trees were removed from land adjacent to California American Water facilities. This action reduced fuel loads surrounding two large water storage tanks and a backup generator essential for maintaining water service and supporting emergency firefighting operations.

Additional vegetation reduction efforts near California American Water's Wikiup facility improved defensible space around water infrastructure serving the community. These combined initiatives represent a collaborative approach to safeguarding both residential areas and vital public infrastructure from wildfire threats.

California American Water stated its commitment to ongoing partnerships with local agencies and community organizations to improve public safety and ensure reliable water service throughout Sonoma County.
