California Endowment breaks ground on residential rehabilitation project in Los Angeles

Construction has begun on the Robert K. Ross Center for Hope and Healing in downtown Los Angeles. Located near the local jail, the project repurposes a former parking lot into a residential and service hub designed to support individuals reentering society, those experiencing homelessness, and low-income residents.

Brenda Solorzano, CEO of The California Endowment, stated that the initiative aims to provide a stable foundation to help reduce recidivism. The project adheres to a "care first" model, which emphasizes housing and health services as a primary method for preventing interaction with the criminal justice system.

The development team, including Studio One Eleven and Linc Housing, incorporated neurophysiology principles into the architectural design. The site will feature natural lighting, acoustic engineering to minimize urban noise, and outdoor gardens to create a calming atmosphere. A post-occupancy study is scheduled following the project's completion in 2028 to evaluate the impact of the design on resident stability.
