California Pizza Kitchen to Deploy Up to 1,000 Pizza Vending Machines
California Pizza Kitchen plans to roll out up to 1,000 autonomous vending machines over the next three years, capable of preparing pizzas in 90 seconds. These units will be placed in high-traffic locations.

California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) announced plans to deploy as many as 1,000 autonomous vending machines across the U.S. within the next three years. The machines will offer 7-inch pizzas, including popular options like barbecue chicken, prepared in approximately 90 seconds using the same ingredients found in the chain's restaurants.
The expansion follows successful pilot programs at airports in Dallas and Boston. The new units are slated for placement in high-traffic areas such as airports, universities, hospitals, hotels, and office complexes. CPK aims to extend its brand presence in locations where traditional dining options might be limited, addressing industry challenges like high labor and food costs.
"There's a huge need to get closer to our consumer with our product, in a convenient way for them to experience it at all hours, without a labor cost attached," said Michael Beacham, president of California Pizza Kitchen Global. He noted that consumers are increasingly prioritizing convenience and are wary of high delivery app fees.
The technology behind the vending machines utilizes commercial ovens to cook frozen pizzas, extending shelf life and reducing spoilage. T-ROC Global will own and operate the kiosks under a licensing agreement. While the move represents a significant technological investment for CPK, industry experts advise that brands must ensure such automated solutions align with their overall strategy and effectively educate consumers on the new ordering experience.
