California Startups Secure Record $385 Billion in Funding in 2026

Startups headquartered in California have captured more than 75% of all U.S. venture funding in 2026, according to data from Crunchbase. The state’s companies have raised $385 billion in seed- through growth-stage rounds, doubling the total volume recorded for the entire country in previous years.

The surge in capital is heavily driven by large financing rounds for San Francisco-based artificial intelligence firms. OpenAI and Anthropic alone accounted for over half of California's total funding tally. Established technology companies, including Waymo and Databricks, have also contributed to the record-breaking volume through significant capital raises.

The concentration of investment extends beyond late-stage companies. California-based seed and early-stage startups have secured approximately $62 billion, representing 57% of all such funding within the United States. This data suggests that despite market shifts, venture capital continues to gravitate toward Silicon Valley and Southern California’s established technology clusters as the year concludes.
