California Waste Solutions to Use Industrial Drones in Vietnam
California Waste Solutions (CWS) will deploy industrial drones for odor control and disinfection at its Da Phuoc facility in Vietnam. Operations are expected to begin in October 2026 after obtaining necessary permits.
Oakland, Calif. – California Waste Solutions (CWS) is advancing its environmental technology operations in Vietnam by deploying industrial drones. Through its subsidiary, Vietnam Waste Solutions (VWS), the company plans to use the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for odor control and disinfection at the Da Phuoc Integrated Waste Management Facility in Ho Chi Minh City.
Regular flight operations are anticipated to commence in October 2026, pending the acquisition of required flight permits and operator certifications under Vietnamese regulations. The drones will spray biological treatment products over active waste-receiving areas and landfill cells to neutralize odors and disinfect surfaces from the air, replacing riskier manual spraying methods.
The Da Phuoc facility, designed to handle up to 10,000 tons of municipal solid waste daily, will see VWS become the first waste treatment company in Vietnam to implement large-scale aerial equipment for routine environmental control. This initiative aligns with Vietnam's national strategies for digital transformation and innovation in environmental protection.
Preparations for the drone program adhere to strict standards, focusing on legal compliance, airspace authorization, and personnel certification. CWS highlighted that this technological integration aims to assist workers and benefit the environment and residents of Ho Chi Minh City, similar to the parent company's recent adoption of AI in its optical scanners in California.
