Canon: Businesses Prepare for Stricter Cybersecurity Regulations

Canon research reveals that information security has consistently been identified as one of the top three challenges by IT leaders over the past five years. The complexity of data protection and evolving threats necessitate a proactive approach.

The European Union and national governments are strengthening their cybersecurity directives, expanding their scope to cover more industries. This "regulatory revolution" means increased reporting and security measures must be implemented. Upcoming legislation like DORA (Digital Operational Resilience Act), effective from early 2025, mandates testing and oversight of operational resilience.

Further regulatory shifts include the Cyber Resilience Act, slated for full effect by 2027, and the NIS2 Directive. NIS2 aims to enhance cyber resilience across the EU by imposing stricter risk management practices, incident reporting obligations, and increased regulatory supervision, requiring significant adjustments from businesses.

Canon advises that partnering with experts is crucial for navigating this landscape. Companies are urged to understand applicable regulations, establish continuous monitoring of legal trends, potentially expand their cybersecurity teams, and implement robust incident response and reporting processes. Investing in appropriate technologies will also be vital for compliance.
