All five films nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the 2019 Academy Awards utilized Canon equipment during their production. The manufacturer announced that its Cinema EOS system cameras and lenses, along with DSLR kits, were used across all nominated films.

Among the featured films was "Free Solo," which documented climber Alex Honnold's ascent of El Capitan. The production employed three Canon camera bodies: an EOS C300 Mark II, an EOS-1D X Mark II, and an XC10. The film crew utilized a range of Canon Cinema and EF lenses, including the CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm lens.

Jimmy Chin, co-director and cinematographer for "Free Solo," highlighted the performance and reliability of Canon equipment under demanding conditions, which ranged from the cliffs of Yosemite National Park to confined spaces. The other nominated films, including "RBG," "Of Fathers and Sons," "Hale County This Morning This Evening," and "Minding the Gap," also relied on Canon camera systems.

Canon emphasizes that its professional-grade cameras and lenses provide filmmakers with the tools necessary to produce high-quality content under diverse and challenging circumstances, whether for documentary or narrative projects.
