Canon China Warns Consumers of Counterfeit "CCD Cameras"

Canon China has released a statement warning consumers about the presence of counterfeit "CCD cameras" in the market that improperly use the Canon brand. The company has identified these fake products, often marketed as "retro CCD" cameras, being sold through both online and physical channels, significantly impacting consumer rights and the company's brand reputation.

These counterfeit devices, which sometimes use sensors from dashcams housed in plastic casings, are infringing on Canon's intellectual property. The company emphasizes that genuine new Canon cameras come with a unique anti-counterfeit label that can be verified on their official website. Authentic Canon cameras display the brand logo upon startup, and their photo EXIF data includes brand and model information.

Canon advises consumers to consult the list of available models on their official website and to purchase only through authorized channels. The recent resurgence in popularity of older digital cameras equipped with CCD sensors has led to some vendors importing and refurbishing obsolete stock or creating outright fakes, sometimes promoting them as unique "retro" photographic tools.

Consumers are encouraged to verify the authenticity of product packaging and ensure the device identifies itself as a genuine Canon product during setup to avoid purchasing counterfeits.
