Details regarding Canon's forthcoming EOS R8 Mark II full-frame mirrorless camera have surfaced online, indicating a potential launch date of September 15 and market availability in October. The camera is estimated to be priced at 1,879 euros.
The EOS R8 Mark II is rumored to feature a 24-megapixel full-frame sensor, similar to the one found in the EOS R6 Mark II. Key photographic enhancements include continuous shooting capabilities of up to 40 frames per second using the electronic shutter, a maximum shutter speed of 1/16000 second, and in-body image stabilization offering up to 7.5 stops of correction, which would significantly aid handheld shooting in low light or with telephoto lenses.
Autofocus performance is expected to be powered by Canon's Dual Pixel AF II system, incorporating AI-driven subject detection and tracking. An enhanced animal AF tracking feature is also mentioned. For improved ergonomics, a new joystick is reportedly added to the rear of the camera for quicker adjustment of focus points and shooting settings.
Video capabilities are said to include 1080p recording at 180 frames per second and 4K video at 60 frames per second. The camera may also offer 4K video derived from 6K oversampling and support for the Canon Log 3 gamma curve, providing greater flexibility in post-production color grading.
