Canon Plans Dedicated Video APS-C Camera
Canon is reportedly planning to split its flagship APS-C camera line into two distinct product lines: one for photography and another for video. The new video-focused EOS R7 V model is expected to be released by late 2027.
Canon is reportedly planning to bifurcate its flagship APS-C camera lineup into two distinct product branches: one focused on high-speed photography and another dedicated to video production. Technology media outlet dailycameranews reports that a dedicated video model, the EOS R7 V, is slated for release in late 2027 or early 2028.
The EOS R7 V is positioned for filmmakers, documentary teams, live streamers, and solo content creators. The camera is expected to feature an active cooling system or a specialized thermal design to support extended periods of high-frame-rate video recording.
Reported specifications for the EOS R7 V include support for 4K video recording at 60fps and 120fps, along with an Open Gate full-sensor shooting mode. The camera is also rumored to support Canon Log 2 and Log 3 color profiles, 10-bit 4:2:2 internal recording, and various codecs such as ALL-Intra and Long GOP.
In terms of design, the EOS R7 V is rumored to include front and rear tally indicators, a top-mounted recording button, and dedicated controls for video assist features like false color, zebras, and peaking. The sensor is rumored to be a custom APS-C sensor with a resolution of approximately 24 to 26 megapixels.
