Canon Releases XA45 4K Camcorder for Professional Use

Canon has introduced the XA45, a compact 4K UHD camcorder designed for professionals in corporate, education, and entertainment sectors, featuring advanced recording and streaming capabilities.

10 October 2026

Canon released the XA45 camcorder in February 2021, addressing the growing demand for 4K content in corporate, education, and entertainment industries. This professional device features a 20x optical zoom and a 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor, enabling recording in 4K UHD or Full HD using XF-AVC and MP4 codecs.

The XA45, an evolution of the XA40, includes a 3G-SDI output for seamless integration with broadcast equipment and live streaming encoders. This feature caters to the increasing need for professional IP connectivity. The camcorder supports the professional XF-AVC format, which integrates into professional workflows with added metadata for post-production flexibility. For faster editing without compromising quality, the XA45 can also record 4K/UHD footage in MP4 format.

Despite its compact size and approximate weight of 730g (body only), the XA45 delivers high-quality imagery. Its combination of a 4K UHD 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor and DIGIC DV6 image processor ensures sharp, high-resolution footage. By oversampling 4K data, it also produces impressive Full HD videos. The camera supports 4K UHD recording at 25 fps and Full HD recording at frame rates up to 50p and 50i.

The detachable handle includes two standard XLR connectors for external microphones, supporting dual-channel audio recording. It also offers line, microphone, and 48V phantom power inputs. An integrated stereo microphone and a 3.5mm stereo mini-jack provide additional audio input options. The Canon XA45 was released in February 2021 with a price of €1,999.
