Canon scanners adopted to accelerate pharmacy prescription workflows

The Bahnhof-Apotheke in Weilheim, Germany, is utilizing Canon's DR-M140 document scanner to streamline the processing of medical prescriptions. The hardware is part of an integrated solution provided by Pharmatechnik, which connects the scanning units directly to the IXOS pharmacy management software.

According to pharmacy owner Iris Hundertmark, the implementation has significantly shortened administrative tasks. Using the Canon scanner, staff can process a prescription and verify medication availability within approximately ten seconds. This automation minimizes the time spent on manual data entry at the point of service.

The adoption of the DR-M140 reflects a broader trend among pharmacies to improve operational efficiency through compact and reliable hardware. By replacing manual paperwork with digital scanning, the pharmacy reports improved throughput for prescription handling.
