The Ian Parry Scholarship, supported by Canon, has recognized the most promising young photojournalists of 2020. The award, now in its 30th year, supports aspiring photojournalists under 24 or studying photography full-time.
Winners were selected from more than 300 applicants across 40 countries. They will receive a £3,500 bursary for their projects and access to loan equipment from Canon Europe. An awards ceremony will be held virtually in November, presented by patron Sir Don McCullin.
Japanese photographer Yuki Iwamura received the Sunday Times Award for Achievement for his images exploring American patriotism and ideology. Iwamura's work also addresses themes of aging and mortality in his native Japan.
Other awardees included Capella Buncher (Canon Award for Potential) and Stefanie Silber (special award for work on grief following stillbirth). Daniel Harvey Gonzalez and Ingmar Nolting received Highly Commended Awards, and Subhrajit Sen received a Commended Award. The jury featured industry leaders, including Canon Ambassador Brent Stirton.
