Canon Unveils EOS R5 and EOS R6 Full-Frame Mirrorless Cameras
Canon has announced two new full-frame mirrorless cameras, the EOS R5 and EOS R6, expanding its EOS R system. The EOS R5 targets professionals with 45-megapixel stills and 8K video capabilities.
Canon officially introduced two new full-frame mirrorless cameras, the EOS R5 and EOS R6, on July 9, 2020. These models expand Canon's EOS R system, utilizing the RF lens mount.
The EOS R5 is aimed at professionals, offering 45-megapixel stills at up to 20 frames per second. It is capable of internal 8K RAW video recording at up to 29.97 fps and 4K video at up to 120 fps. The EOS R6 is designed for advanced enthusiasts transitioning to a mirrorless system, providing 20.1-megapixel stills at 20 fps and 4K video at up to 60 fps.
Both cameras feature a new 5-axis in-body image stabilization (IBIS) system that works in conjunction with the optical image stabilization in compatible RF lenses. Canon states this "coordinated IS" offers industry-leading stabilization, compensating for up to eight stops. The cameras are powered by DIGIC X processors, enabling a next-generation Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system with autofocus capabilities as low as -6.5 EV.
Connectivity options include built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for seamless connection to smartphones and networks. Image files can be automatically transferred to Canon's image.canon cloud platform. The EOS R5 is described as a significant advancement in mirrorless technology, offering the highest resolution of any EOS camera to date.
