Canva announces restructuring affecting 22 percent of workforce
Design platform Canva is cutting or reallocating 22 percent of its staff following its first significant growth slowdown in a decade. The move marks a major shift in the company's operational structure.

Canva, the Sydney-based online design platform, will initiate a restructuring process affecting 1,271 employees, or 22 percent of its total workforce. The company confirmed the plan will involve a combination of layoffs, role changes, and a consolidation of staff into central offices.
CEO Melanie Perkins stated that the restructuring is intended to simplify business operations and reduce niche specializations. As part of this consolidation, the company plans to move more of its product teams to its Sydney base. Additionally, Canva will require hybrid employees to work from the office two to three days a week starting in January.
The organizational changes occur as software firms re-evaluate their staffing requirements and operational models in response to shifting market conditions and the rise of AI-driven productivity tools. The company’s growth rate, which has been consistent for the past decade, has recently seen its first significant deceleration, prompting a review of corporate expenditure.
