Capgemini to build Sweden's next-generation SWEN emergency communications network using 5G

Capgemini has been selected to support the development of Sweden's new generation SWEN emergency communications network. The Swedish Civil Defence and Resilience Agency (MSB) chose the company to develop the country's communication platform for public safety, emergency response, healthcare, and civil defence.

In the project, Capgemini will lead key areas including system integration, architecture, interoperability, operational readiness, large-scale testing, and cybersecurity. The company will also coordinate collaboration with commercial mobile network operators and other technology providers.

The SWEN network will gradually replace Sweden's existing Rakel digital radio network. The new platform will be based on modern LTE and 5G technologies along with Mission Critical Services (MCX). Its design focuses on secure, data-rich communication, advanced positioning, real-time video, and operational information sharing.

Capgemini's role will cover the entire program lifecycle, from establishment and migration through to handover to the agency's own operational organization. The initiative aims to strengthen Sweden's crisis preparedness and civil defence capabilities, while creating a scalable foundation for future connected services and machine-to-machine communication.
