Capitainer Begins Clinical Sampling for HbA1c FDA Submission
Swedish health technology firm Capitainer has launched clinical trials to validate its blood-sampling device for HbA1c monitoring ahead of an FDA 510(k) application.

Stockholm-based Capitainer has commenced the first clinical sampling phase for its HbA1c testing study, a critical step in the company’s push for U.S. regulatory clearance. The study aims to gather the necessary clinical data to support a formal FDA 510(k) submission, allowing the device to be marketed for the monitoring of long-term blood glucose levels.
The trial is structured to include at least 120 participants, evaluating the accuracy of both self-administered and assisted capillary blood collection using the company’s B50 microsampling device. These results will be compared against data derived from traditional venous blood draws to verify clinical performance parity.
Securing FDA 510(k) clearance is a major milestone for Capitainer as it seeks to expand its footprint in the U.S. market. The move toward point-of-care or at-home microsampling represents a broader industry effort to decentralize blood diagnostics and increase patient access to chronic disease management tools.
