Cappello's Gluten-Free Wheat Starch Pizza Expands to Kroger Stores
Cappello's is expanding its Classic Crispy Crust pizza, the first and only GFCO-certified wheat starch pizza, into select Kroger banners nationwide.

Cappello's, a frozen food company known for gluten-free products, is expanding the distribution of its Classic Crispy Crust pizza line into select Kroger banners across the United States. This move makes the company's unique wheat starch-based pizza, certified gluten-free by the GFCO, available to a broader consumer base.
The Classic Crispy Crust pizza, available in Five Cheese and Uncured Pepperoni, is made with real wheat starch that has been processed and certified gluten-free. The product tests below 5 parts per million (ppm) of gluten, exceeding both the FDA's 20 ppm standard and the GFCO's 10 ppm requirement. This allows consumers with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity to enjoy a pizza with the taste, chew, and crispiness of a conventional wheat crust.
Cappello's has been shifting its strategy to include conventional grocery channels alongside its traditional natural food store presence. CEO Phil Anson stated that the Classic Crispy Crust aims to eliminate the trade-off between dietary needs and pizza quality, offering a product comparable to traditional pizzas.
The expansion into Kroger follows Cappello's existing distribution in major retailers such as Walmart, Target, Costco, and Publix. The Classic Crispy Crust pizzas are rolling out in the frozen aisle of selected Kroger stores nationwide, including Kroger, Ralphs, Fry's Food Stores, King Soopers, QFC, Smith's, Fred Meyer, and Roundy's.
