Carbios and FROMM Develop Home-Compostable Air Bubbles
The companies CARBIOS and FROMM Packaging Systems have partnered to create Airpad™ BIO Home Compost®, an air bubble packaging that is fully home-compostable. The product aims to provide product protection while reducing environmental impact.
CARBIOS and FROMM Packaging Systems have collaborated to develop and market Airpad™ BIO Home Compost®, the first fully home-compostable air bubble for protective packaging.
This new packaging solution is designed to offer reliable product protection while lessening environmental impact, even when recycling facilities are unavailable. The material is certified by TÜV Austria as "OK Compost Home," indicating it will fully disintegrate in home composting conditions within six months.
CARBIOS Active technology is integrated into the Airpad™ BIO Home Compost® product. Performance indicators from FROMM suggest the packaging is 85% lighter than conventional paper protection and has an 85% lower carbon footprint. The development aims to provide a ready-to-use solution compatible with existing packaging workflows and equipment.
The initiative addresses the challenge of creating effective protective packaging that is also environmentally sustainable. The companies highlight that the product's biodegradability ensures minimal waste, making it a viable option for businesses seeking greener logistics and supply chain solutions.
