Biotechnology company Carbios and packaging solutions provider Sleever have launched SEELCAP® ONEGO, the first home-compostable tamper-evident shrink sleeve for packaging. This innovation is designed to address the challenge of small, non-recyclable plastic components often found in packaging waste and their dispersion into the environment.
The SEELCAP® ONEGO sleeve utilizes Carbios' technology, enabling complete disintegration in home composting conditions within six months. The product is engineered to meet security requirements, including tamper evidence and easy opening, while functioning as a "drop-in" solution compatible with existing industrial equipment.
According to Sleever, the new sleeve can reduce carbon footprint by up to 45% compared to conventional solutions. It has achieved the "OK HOME COMPOST" certification from TÜV AUSTRIA, verifying its biodegradability in home composting environments at temperatures as low as ambient.
The collaboration between Carbios and Sleever aims to provide the food and beverage industry with a sustainable alternative for packaging seals.
