Carbios Reports Progress in PET Biorecycling Technology
Carbios has advanced its PET plastic biorecycling technology, enabling the recycling of plastics and the creation of new products.

French biotechnology company Carbios has announced significant progress in the development of its PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic biorecycling technology.
The technology aims to enable efficient and environmentally friendly recycling of PET plastic. The process breaks down PET plastic into its original monomers, which can then be reused to produce high-quality new plastic products. This approach offers an alternative to traditional mechanical recycling methods, which often degrade plastic quality.
Carbios has constructed a demonstration plant in Issoire, France, and is now preparing to build an industrial-scale plant in collaboration with its partners. The company expects to begin operating the demonstration plant in 2026. This advancement represents a crucial step towards a closed-loop PET recycling system, potentially reducing plastic waste and the demand for virgin resources significantly.
The company has garnered support from several well-known brands and investors who share the vision of a more sustainable plastic economy. The commercialization of this technology could transform the plastics industry and provide solutions to the growing global plastic waste problem.
