Carbios revises timeline for PET biorecycling plant construction

Clermont-Ferrand, France – Carbios, a company developing biological technologies for plastics and textiles, announced on September 24, 2025, its half-year financial results and confirmed its objective to build a PET biorecycling plant in Longlaville. However, the construction timeline has been adjusted.

The resumption of construction is now anticipated before the end of 2025, contingent upon securing the necessary additional funding. The plant is subsequently projected to be commissioned in the second half of 2027.

Carbios reported a strong cash position of €72 million as of June 30, 2025, following a cost-saving plan implemented in the first half of the year. The company stated that operating expenses have been reduced, providing a cash horizon of over 12 months. Progress has been made with public financiers, including ADEME and the Regional Council.

Recent regulatory changes in France, effective September 7, 2025, are expected to enhance the competitiveness of Carbios' technology. A new decree under the Environmental Code introduces financial incentives for the incorporation of recycled materials, including a bonus for the use of biorecycled PET in sensitive packaging applications, making it more competitive with virgin PET.

While the company notes clear interest from private investors, these commitments are conditional on pre-selling a significant portion of the future plant's capacity, a target not yet achieved. Carbios is reportedly working to finalize these pre-sale agreements to secure the funding required to restart the construction project.
