Clermont-Ferrand, France – Carbios, a company pioneering bio-industrial solutions to reinvent the lifecycle of plastic and textile polymers, has announced a significant strengthening of its international patent portfolio throughout 2020. The company has secured its innovations across various global markets.

By the end of 2020, Carbios held 38 patent families worldwide. Of these, 18 patents specifically protect the company's developed biorecycling process for PET plastics and textiles, along with its proprietary PET-degrading enzymes. During the year, a total of eleven patents were granted, with seven of these in the United States, covering all of the company's projects.

The company highlights that the patents, particularly the two granted in the US relating to PET enzymes, reinforce its pioneering position in the identification and development of such enzymes. Concurrently, Carbios expanded the patent coverage for its PET recycling process to include Canada, China, and India.

The expansion of Carbios' patent portfolio supports its role as a global player in PET recycling. The company emphasizes that patent protection secures a strategic and competitive advantage in key markets for its current and future industrial partners.
