Carbios Technology Enables Home-Compostable Straws
Carbios, in partnership with GreenPrint, has developed fully home-compostable drinking straws. The new straws can withstand over a year of storage and decompose in home compost within three months.

French biotechnology company Carbios, in collaboration with GreenPrint, has developed new drinking straws that are fully compostable at home.
The straws are engineered to remain stable and functional for over a year during storage. They are designed to disintegrate in home composting conditions in under three months and are made from over 70% bio-based raw materials. The straws maintain their taste neutrality and structural integrity in beverages ranging from cold to moderately warm.
Carbios' proprietary technology, "CARBIOS Active," facilitates the creation of materials that meet both performance and environmental standards. The company focuses on addressing plastic waste through recycling and the development of biodegradable alternatives.
These new home-compostable straws have been launched in the North and South American markets. The development aimed to provide a reliable consumer experience while significantly reducing environmental impact.
