Cargill integrates AI technologies into livestock operations

Cargill is increasingly incorporating artificial intelligence into its agricultural solutions to address global food production pressures. By deploying automated monitoring systems, the company seeks to reduce waste and improve operational precision for its livestock farming clients.

The firm utilizes several AI-based tools, including solar-powered feed bin sensors through its partnership with BinSentry and drone-assisted cattle monitoring via its CattleView system. Additionally, the company’s Agriness platform utilizes a virtual assistant to analyze farm data, currently supporting the monitoring of approximately 3.5 million sows globally.

According to Vinicius Chiappetta, an animal nutrition leader at Cargill, these technologies are no longer theoretical. By automating tasks such as weight estimation in poultry and gut microbiome analysis, the company aims to move from reactive farm management to data-driven decision-making.

These initiatives represent a broader industry shift toward digitizing animal husbandry to maintain productivity while meeting rising welfare and sustainability standards.
