Cargill Introduces Technology Innovations to Enhance Farm Efficiency

Agricultural giant Cargill has launched several technology innovations aimed at helping farmers optimize their production and manage costs.

A key tool is Cargill Nutrition Cloud™, a platform designed to help livestock producers manage feed ingredients, nutritional values, and supplier data. This software aims to reduce feed costs by providing more accurate formulation capabilities and streamlining information flow across the value chain. It is estimated to reduce feed formulation costs by $2 to $5 per ton.

Additionally, through a partnership with BinSentry, Cargill is implementing solar-powered sensors for feed bins. These sensors measure feed quantities in real time with up to 99% accuracy, reducing guesswork, optimizing deliveries, and minimizing waste. For poultry producers, this technology can save $0.03 to $0.04 per bird in feed costs.

A third significant investment is the Birdoo system, which utilizes artificial intelligence and 3D computer vision to monitor the weight and growth of poultry. Instead of manual weighing, Birdoo estimates weight from images, reducing stress on the animals and enhancing producers' ability to respond to growth trends. This is expected to lower feed costs by $4 to $20 per ton.

These technologies address challenges faced by farmers, such as variable weather conditions, rising costs, and fluctuations in raw material availability. Through these initiatives, Cargill seeks to provide farmers with better data-driven decision-making and improve overall farm efficiency and sustainability.
