Cargill Releases Environmental Product Declarations for Asphalt Additives

Cargill Asphalt Solutions has finalized Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for its Anova® asphalt additives, covering both the USA and Europe. These declarations provide asphalt producers and contractors with verified data to demonstrate how Anova additives contribute to reducing the environmental footprint of asphalt mixtures. The primary methods for achieving these reductions include increasing the use of recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) and lowering the production temperature of asphalt mixes. This initiative aligns with broader industry trends toward sustainability and circular economy principles in construction. By offering EPDs, Cargill empowers its clients to make more informed environmental choices and to quantify the benefits of using their additives. This can lead to more resource-efficient and lower-carbon infrastructure projects. Recent case studies highlight the practical application and benefits of these additives. In Yonkers, a trial incorporating 40% RAP in asphalt mixes demonstrated cost-effectiveness and enhanced performance. A project in Aurora, Ohio, utilized a Cargill bio-binder with a high-RAP mix, successfully reducing carbon use while maintaining quality. Further validation comes from trials at the NCAT Test Track, assessing performance under rigorous conditions. Additionally, the reuse of rejuvenated RAP at Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands showcases the versatility of Cargill's solutions in diverse applications and geographic regions, supporting the drive for greater asphalt sustainability.
