Helsinki – In March 2019, Navis, a Cargotec company, announced its acquisition of privately held Cetus Labs, Inc., the U.S. provider of Octopi, a cloud-based terminal operating system (TOS). This move expands Navis's software portfolio, aiming to support thousands of smaller terminals worldwide seeking to modernize their operations.

Launched in 2015, Octopi is designed as a modern, lightweight, cloud-based TOS specifically for small container and mixed cargo terminals. The system is currently implemented at ten sites across seven countries, offering a cost-effective solution for vessel planning, yard management, cargo tracking, and real-time electronic communication with shipping partners.

Navis stated that the acquisition addresses customer demand for lighter TOS solutions to enhance planning and execution at smaller terminals and to facilitate easier integration into the supply chain. This acquisition will enable Navis to provide more TOS options for both standalone smaller terminals and those integrated into larger global terminal operator networks.

The acquisition is not expected to have a significant impact on Cargotec's 2019 financial results. Navis operates under the Cargotec umbrella, which focuses on optimizing global cargo flows.
