Cariprazine Shows Efficacy Against Negative Symptoms of Schizophrenia in Richter Trial
Gedeon Richter Plc.'s cariprazine demonstrated statistically significant improvement in negative symptoms of schizophrenia compared to risperidone in a phase 3b trial.

Pharmaceutical company Gedeon Richter Plc. has released results from its phase 3b trial comparing the efficacy of cariprazine and risperidone in treating negative symptoms of schizophrenia. The study involved 461 patients who received either cariprazine or risperidone as monotherapy for 26 weeks.
The findings, published in The Lancet medical journal, indicated that cariprazine achieved a statistically significant reduction in negative symptoms compared to risperidone. Both medications were found to be safe and well-tolerated, with similar adverse events reported across both groups, including insomnia and akathisia.
Negative symptoms of schizophrenia, such as blunted affect and lack of motivation, significantly impair patient functioning and quality of life. Effective treatment options for these symptoms have been limited, making the results for cariprazine significant.
Gedeon Richter stated that the study supports the efficacy of cariprazine in treating predominant negative symptoms of schizophrenia. The company fully funded the trial.
