Carousell reports sixfold GMV increase for live-selling feature

Secondhand marketplace Carousell has expanded its live-selling feature beyond Singapore to include markets in Hong Kong and Malaysia. The platform utilizes software from Santa Clara-based company Agora to power the real-time auctions.

Data from the first five months of the regional rollout shows a sixfold increase in gross merchandise value (GMV) and the number of active bidders. The frequency of live shows surged 13-fold, while the monthly count of participating sellers grew fivefold. Audience engagement also rose, with viewer numbers increasing four times over the same period.

The feature includes integrated tools for real-time bidding and an anti-snipe timer to regulate auction endings. To maintain transaction security, the platform mandates that users verify a payment card and shipping address before they are permitted to join live auctions.
