Cashfree Payments Introduces Checkout Tool for AI Agents
Fintech firm Cashfree Payments has launched 'Checkout for Agents', a tool designed to streamline payment processing initiated by AI assistants.

Cashfree Payments has released a new utility titled 'Checkout for Agents' that allows AI-driven entities to process transactions on merchant websites. Built on the open-source WebMCP protocol, the tool is designed to integrate with existing checkout pages without requiring additional technical configuration or code updates.
Current web interfaces are largely designed for human users, causing AI agents to consume significant computational resources to navigate pages and execute purchases. By leveraging WebMCP, Cashfree claims its solution reduces token consumption by over 40% by providing AI agents with direct access to payment details and checkout actions.
Regarding security, the company confirmed that the tool maintains existing authentication standards. Any final payment authorization, such as a one-time password (OTP) input, remains a human-controlled step, mitigating risks of unauthorized actions.
The launch highlights a broader shift in the Indian fintech landscape, where companies like Razorpay are also pivoting toward AI-powered operating systems. Cashfree, established in 2015, currently processes over $80 billion in annual transaction volume.
