Catapult Integrates AI Disclosure Requirements into Music Distribution Platform
Music distributor Catapult has become the first in its industry to embed mandatory AI disclosure fields within its distribution platform. Artists and labels uploading new releases must now indicate any AI assistance.

Music distribution service Catapult has implemented mandatory fields requiring disclosure of artificial intelligence (AI) use directly on its platform. The update mandates that artists and labels indicate whether AI generated or substantially assisted cover art, sound recordings, compositions, or artist identities for new releases.
The move addresses growing demands from digital music stores and streaming platforms that increasingly require clear reporting of AI involvement. By integrating these disclosure requirements into the submission workflow, Catapult aims to ensure all distributed content complies with current and emerging platform rules. Failure to disclose AI use accurately could result in content removal from revenue-generating services.
Caleb Carruth, founder of Catapult, stated that AI's role in the music industry is rapidly expanding. The company chose to proactively implement these requirements to provide artists and labels with a straightforward and transparent method for declaring AI usage at the point of delivery. This approach is intended to protect intellectual property, ensure compliance with store guidelines, and support creators utilizing these new tools.
Catapult emphasizes that the new disclosure fields are designed to support artists rather than restrict them. Creators who employ AI for elements like artwork, composition, or vocal generation can now accurately declare their use. The distributor views this feature as part of its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the music marketplace and reducing friction for clients, ultimately helping artists maximize revenue in an evolving landscape.
