Caverion to build 83-kilometer power line for Fingrid
Fingrid and Caverion have signed an agreement worth approximately EUR 20 million for a new power line project in Central and South Ostrobothnia. The project will strengthen Finland's electricity transmission capacity.
Finland's transmission system operator Fingrid Oyj and Caverion have signed an agreement valued at approximately EUR 20 million for a new power line project in the Central and South Ostrobothnia regions. The project involves Caverion constructing a 400/110 kilovolt power line spanning 83 kilometers and utilizing 237 steel columns. This contract extends Caverion's existing agreement with Fingrid, which was previously announced at EUR 21 million. Tommi Olsson, Head of Power Line Projects at Fingrid, stated that this line is part of the larger Lakeuslinja project, encompassing 400 km of new 400 kV transmission lines and multiple substations. Olsson expressed confidence in Caverion's ability to deliver, citing their demonstrated capabilities in previous projects. Caverion noted that the new power line will enhance the transmission capacity of Fingrid's grid, facilitating efficient electricity transfer from Sweden and Northern Finland to the southern parts of the country. The project also aims to support renewable energy infrastructure, contribute to Finland's climate goals, and maintain the nation's electricity self-sufficiency. The project is scheduled to commence in summer 2026, with the transmission line connection expected to be completed in 2028. Caverion has a history of implementing power line projects in Finland, having completed nearly 50 such projects in the past decade and receiving full quality marks from Fingrid for previous work.
